‘As I Was, Not As I Am’

Dramaturgy Statement

When going into As I Was, Not As I Am, I knew my role would be less focused on history, worldbuilding, or design, but more focused on the audience. As I Was tells a story that is absolutely necessary: the impact of our broken healthcare system on regular people, and in this case our regular people are queer, allowing for a story not normally seen with queer individuals to bloom onstage. I focused on protecting the cast and crew from possible triggers within the show, and on being available with explanations, not just for the production team but the audience as well. I want everyone to be able to experience this wonderful show safely and securely.
